Santorini-inspired attraction in Cameron Highlands demolished for not getting authority approval

The Cameron Highlands district council (MDCH) demolished the Cameron Santorini tourist attraction due to lack of approval from authorities.
The demolition took place from 9 am to 11:30 am on Monday, August 5.
The operation was led by MDCH president Azmil Hadid Maznan and involved multiple agencies:
- Cameron Highlands district and land office (PDTCH)
- Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM)
- Pahang state enforcement Unit (UPNP)
- Cameron Highlands district Public Works Department (PWD)
- Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)
The council emphasized that this action serves as a lesson and reminder for compliance with current procedures and regulations for development projects.
The demolition was conducted under Section 70 (1) of the Construction Without Approval provision of Act 133 of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974.
Cameron Santorini maybe rebuilt again
While Cameron Santorini was demolished due to a lack of proper approval, there is a possibility for its reopening in the future. Once the necessary applications are submitted and approved by the relevant authorities, and all regulations and procedures are fully complied with, the attraction may be rebuilt and opened to the public again. The Cameron Highlands district council encourages developers to adhere to the required processes to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
